2015-09-11 - The Gang gets together for an easterly.

2015-09-11 Bob's Beach - Stevenson.

Temira's forecast was for Easterly winds in the morning, so I arrived at Bob’s Beach around 8:30am.  Typical of Bob’s Beach, no one was sailing yet, but people were looking out on the water trying to decide what to Rig.  There is a big wind shadow next to shore, so the real wind is in the middle of the river, so it is hard to judge how hard it is blowing.  The rest of our group showed up about 15 minutes later.  There was a lot of talking about 4.8’s, but pretty well everyone rigged 5.6’s.  I was fist on the water, and the 5.6  was definitely the right call for me.  Easterly winds at Stevenson are forgiving as the waves are never very big, so it is easy to carry a little extra sail.

René had a good day on his 5.6!
It seemed to take some time for the others to get on the water probably trying to decide if they were going to rig smaller sails. Kent said he was right behind me, but I didn't see him out there until almost 9:00.   Eventually everyone got out.  I sailed for a solid hour.  The first half hour was best, then the wind shifted Northerly and the holes got a bit larger.  It was still very good sailing, but I came off the water because I just couldn’t hold on anymore.

Kent enjoyed his first day!

Jim and Harold arrived around 10:00.   Harold was running around in a panic trying to get out sailing before the wind died.  He did get out and did have a very good sail!

Jim is suffering from a very sore throat.  He kept praising Harold for doing most of the driving on the way down. Jim got out on his Pumpkin, he even invented a new trick - the Strept Jib.  I hear it is infectious....

The wind lightened up a little bit and became a bit gusty, but it was very sailable until around 2:00ish.

There was a large gathering on the driveway of the Condo to tell stories and drink Blaine's beer early in the evening - then everyone met at 6th Street Bar and Bistro for supper.  The owner Chris was very happy to see us - at least that is what he said.....

I think everyone is here now.  Al, Blaine, Brad, Eddy, Gerry, Handre, Harold, Jim, Kent, Rene, Ross and Ted.

Looking forward to some Westerly winds tomorrow in the Corridor!
